Founded in 1926

It all started back in 1926 when Bella Sprung urged her husband, Isidore, to create a monument company. They were passionate about serving families during some of the most difficult times in their lives — and creating monuments to pay tribute to their loved ones.

Their legacy was carried on by their son, Hy, after he returned from serving in World War II. A recipient of the Purple Heart, Hy had a vision that the memorial industry could be more accessible to families in Long Island and in the suburbs.

He opened a showroom on Queens Boulevard, a step that was unconventional at the time because it was not located near a cemetery. Hy was convinced that families should be able to have a place to go in their own neighborhood to create a memorial for a loved one.

A Lasting Legacy

“Few people in monuments had a greater impact than my father. I grew up hearing him praise artists saying they had ‘hands of gold’ and always looked for the real talent in creating memories. He knew a memorial is loved by a family not because it is granite but because it expresses feelings. Families stopped thinking they are buying a ‘stone,’ but instead investing in a memorial,” recalled President Adam Sprung about his father.

Fast forward to today, and Adam Sprung is now the third-generation owner of his family’s business. Sprung Monuments is proud to partner with more and more “mom and pop” companies to give them support, providing the tools and training they need. Sprung Monuments now works with funeral homes all over New York, New Jersey, and beyond.
